Akira Iwano and TOEIC

Akira Iwano and TOEIC

I have been teaching English to a 15-year-old Japanese student since April 2020. He recently took the TOEIC test (Teaching of English for International Communication).

The test has a maximum score of 990 and is divided into two broad sections: listening, and understanding the spoken word, plus reading for meaning and connecting information across text of varying difficult

In the listening unit, students are examined on inference and understanding. In the reading part, such things as locating and understanding specific information, connecting information across multiple sentences and understanding grammar and vocabulary are assessed.

He took his first TOEIC test in July 2022, achieving a score of 810. He then repeated the test 2 months later, this time attaining a score of 875. This represents almost a 10% increase. Anyone with a score of 900+ is deemed highly proficient in English and such a score greatly enhances job prospects. The grade achieved by my student is testament to his application, determination and persistence to succeed, and also to the benefits of continuance when learning a foreign language.

My aim is for him to reach the target of 900+ before the end of his academic schooling and to be in an even better position for employment or academic success.
