Diversity in teacher’s backgrounds strengthen the character of SLS:

On retiring from my Finance and Accounting profession and after working with multinational corporates, including General Motors and Nokia Siemens, I had accumulated valuable knowledge and experience which could still be of  benefit to others if I had the opportunity to help them. My knowledge of the many proven systems and processes is retained. I met, was trained and did work with some of the most amazing people during my career. I was fortunate to learn from colleagues, bosses, subordinates and trainers. In fact anyone I interacted with. It was and had been a fantastic journey.

I had been involved in two major start-ups namely, GM Thailand Ltd and the GM Asia Pacific Shared Services in Bangalore India. Apart from these opportunities, I also had the privilege of living, working and learning from business and country cultures in Australia, Singapore, Japan, India, UAE and Thailand. When located in these places I travelled across the globe to work with great people in affiliates, customers, suppliers. Friendships flourished.

The above is a little about me (a founding member of our School).  A great friend and colleague of mine suggested, on completion of my TEFL course in late 2013, that we start-up the Salisa Language School & SLS TEFL Training Centre in Pattaya, Thailand. The school was primarily to train, those with a good grasp of English, the concepts of TEFL. The TEFL trainees would graduate to teach English in our Region to help lift the proficiency in English language of the Thais. The trainees were either graduates with degrees or those with a good level of English. Primarily they wanted to live and work as English teachers in Thailand. We also set ourselves up to teach Thai language to Foreigners, English language to Asian expats and Thais. While doing so, we created a strength in Business English.

The Salisa Language School and SLS Tefl Training Centre opened in September 2014 and by late 2017 our own accredited Tefl Certificate course was approved by the Ministry of Education, Thailand (CPE, Chonburi).

What are the secrets of success of our school?

1. We are a family of teachers and administration staff.

2. All teachers whether Thai, Foreign, Male or Female are equal.

3. Despite the equality, we have a great spread of ages across the staff.

4. The experience and knowledge of the staff is vast.

5. All, including the owners, have their own roles which is drawn from their past knowledge and skills.

6. In the main will gather to form strategic directions, make decisions for the benefit of the school and its customers.

7. We have adopted partnerships to who we can provide some benefit (provide Tefl teachers, train English often freely, support charities, and practice teach in schools and hotels).

8. We have employed staff and teachers who bring to us amazing knowledge and work experiences.

9. We put quality and respect equal first.

TEFL:

Our lead British academic, Cillian, is a qualified TEFL Trainer who holds vast experience in teaching English, History, Geography (over 35 years). He has a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology. He’s an experienced sports master and soccer coach who, in particular, has trained this brand of football in locations across North America.

BUSINESS ENGLISH:

Our school is located in Pattaya on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand and in the province of Chonburi which abuts the Rayong province. Chonburi and more particularly Rayong provinces are where multinational companies are established (set up) on serviced, industrial (manufacturing) estates. Within and around are expanding cities which cater for workers, their families and all the facilities required for living.

The Sales and Marketing profession drives certain communication. Awareness of English communication used in sales, promotion, distribution and entrepreneurship is a key in Missy’s repertoire. She is an SLS Tefl graduate who also has a bachelor degree in sales and marketing and earned vast experience in this profession. She is admired by her Business English and private students.

Mardeth’s tertiary education was an English programme  and has worked throughout Asia, including Japan and teaches Business English in the most entertaining way. She gains high admiration from her students. She continues to obtain the highest TOEIC scores and is well qualified to prepare students for TOEIC tests.

A career as an electrician and safety trainer in colleges and universities in England makes Roy the perfect English trainer for Thais working in the electrical industries or working as a sole trader (electrician) in the Eastern Seaboard. Thais knowledge of commonly used words and phrases in English is paramount to communicate with foreign peers, customers and suppliers within the electrical and safety fields.

During Chris’s career in the British Navy, amongst other activities, he was trained and graduated in communication, radio and information technologies. Computer, websites and anything technical are Chris’s hobbies. His knowledge and experiences are helpful in creating fantastic lesson plans for employees and people with interests in these technical fields.

Information Technology Management and overall directorship in the largest multinational corporates is Don’s expertise. He can bring the communication in his area of expertise to business English lesson plans while citing much information that can enhance the English learner’s development.

The above is only a sample of our very qualified English teaching staff. Fortunately we have maintained Foreign and Thai staff who find SLS their preferred place to work.

“Improving lives through teaching” is the beat of our drum. Monthly quality SLS TEFL courses are our forte while Business English, TOEIC, IELTS and languages are our strengths. We are connected to recruiters, schools and businesses. We can assist in your vocational change and personal development.

English proficiency and ease of communication of our customers is our Business.
