Make a difference to children and families in Siem Reap through your passion for teaching. Combine your TEFL course with a practical teaching component in the form of volunteering for REACH Siem Reap, a local organisation catering to the city’s urban slums.

SLS offers a four-week, 120-hour In-Class TEFL course in Pattaya. You will attend four 1.5-hour sessions (6 hours per day) for five days a week. You also have the option to complete Distance Learning, wherein you take the TEFL course online through Skype.

After completing the TEFL course, you’ll complete 6-8 hours of teaching practice and volunteer teaching for 4 weeks at REACH Siem Reap, Cambodia. Take on the role of a teaching assistant to local Khmer teachers, helping them deliver English and Elective classes. Children at the organisation are between 5 and 18 years old, and they will try to accommodate your preferred age group.

The SLS TEFL Course is open to students with the following qualifications:

– Proficiency up to good knowledge of English

– 18 years and older

– No criminal record or a legal case under Thai law

Firstly come into Thailand on your tourist visa or if you are here make use of the Visa you have. Depending on entry requirements you may stay at a local guest house in Pattaya for just under Baht 10,000/US$300 for the four week course. At this time a Thai Pass is required and the site to consider the current entry requirements is https://tp.consular.go.th

As I write this, the latest requirement is to stay in Alternative Quarantine for 7 days at an SHA hotel if you are vaccinated before being free to stay at the guest house and complete the TEFL course.

You would then stay the four weeks, become TEFL qualified before taking up the volunteer offer at REACH, Siem Reap. In addition to volunteering you must take in the World Heritage site of ANGKOR WAT too.

In regards to the current entry requirements in Siem Reap, Cambodia, all vaccinated tourists must arrive with a valid negative PCR test, and are given a rapid antigen on arrival. As soon as they get their negative results, they are then released with no quarantine requirements. All tourist visas are now done online (Visas on arrival are no longer being issued), and all e-visas last 30 days and can be extended for another 30 if desired.

Non-vaccinated tourists must undergo 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine.

Keep in mind, these rules change constantly and hopefully by the time you are reading this COVID 19 is less of a problem and the rules have relaxed.

In terms of accommodation, prices can vary from as cheap as a $3 dorm bed / $150 per month in a dorm, basic hotel rooms are going for $15 a night and you can book into very nice places for as cheap as $50 a night at the moment. (USD).

Depending on how long the traveller is coming for, they could look at renting a room/apartment. Short term leases are usually available for people intending on staying 3 months or more (landlords are desperate though and would probably take tenants month by month at the moment). With this in mind, they could get a decent 1 bedroom apartment from $150 – $250 USD per month (excluding electricity, which is usually between $25 – 70 depending on their AC usage).
